I am, frankly, already sick to death of hearing not only Obama and the always gaffe-tastic Biden (won't this be a fun four years following him?), but their followers, as well, suggest we all come together now and sing "kum-ba-ya" and be unified. While I agree that we need to try to all get along, I sincerely wonder where all this talk of unity was for the last eight years? I didn't seek out liberal sites in an attempt to "talk them into unifying", much less demanding it: I can assure you I had better things to do! I'm pretty sure that those many visitors from the left we still have are the "bloggers in pajama's" that Sarah talked about in her interview with Greta on Monday night. I've had several threaten "not to come here anymore"! I am wringing my hands with worry, terribly frightened at the prospect of losing those readers...can you tell?
Tell me, please, do you Dems mean this kind of unity? (disclaimer: not for those with weak stomachs) Or do you mean this kind? Perhaps this is what you mean.
That's what I thought.
I'm all for getting along as Americans, but "unify" with Obama and his policies as conservative Republicans? Nope. Goes against everything I believe in.
No thanks.
Some delusional moderates in the Republican party think Obama is going to rule as a centrist. Obama didn't get the memo, at least not before choosing Rahm Emmanuel as his Chief of Staff.
I can assure you of one thing: while Republicans disagree strongly with Mr. Obama on most of what he stands for, you can be certain you won't see the fits of rage, calls for his assassination, and the blatant disrespect that you have seen from the left these last eight years for our President (especially from the ranks in Congress and the Senate). They lost any respect I ever had for them, and they won't get it back anytime soon, especially by demanding it when they've done absolutely nothing to earn it. I will disagree with Mr. Obama in a peaceful manner, I will exercise my freedom to discuss it here, and I will respect the office he will hold. I will never stoop to the level the liberal left has, and I feel I can say with absolute certainty that most Republicans feel the same way.

I have been reading this blog daily..silent in my opinions. I am usually very understanding on the opinions of both sides. Why don't you just give this man a shot? A lot of people weren't happy when Reagan became president elect but people GAVE him a chance. I supported Barack Obama and would surely be happy to take place in a healthy debate with you on why. But instead of posting such anti-Obama articles could you PLEASE just give the man a shot? When he is inagurated then you can gladly take as many punches at his presidency as you like. But I find it very rude to doubt a man whom you haven't even given a chance.
Thankyou
First of all, the two previous comments are obviously from people who don't follow current politics or have never in the past. If it is your concern about America, then the fact of Nobama's POOR JUDGEMENT, with who he associates with, is enough for me not to trust him!!!! And if you can't read between the lines, why do you think Ahmadinedjad is congratualating Nobama? And why do you think the Russians are setting up missles along the Poland border? Are you people that ignorant to see our country is in extremely dangerous times? I think enough has been said, and when you don't follow politics or don't have the BRAINs to understand, then you should not leave comments that don't make sense. As far as AJ, your comments go to show, that you are someone of extreme ignorance or you just have NO CLASS AT ALL!!!!
Emanuel as Chief of Staff is a signal the Obama wants to get things done.
Jeanne. Trust me. I do have knowledge in politics. I am minoring in political science. This blog continually tries to blame the Stocks decrease and the unemployment decrease on Obama. Guess what he isn't even in office yet. The financial world is screwed up..is that Obama's fault? NO. You talk about Obama being partisan. Your opinions are Republican Partisan! I am a registered indepentdent and guess what I chose Obama because I think the United States needs a breath of fresh air. Not the same Bush policies. You need to get over your loss and look forward to the future. If and when Obama makes huge mistakes in the White House then I will be open to the critism that will come.
Thankyou
And Jeanne, I really do not appreciate you saying that I don't have brains. 20% of conservatives voted for Obama. Why don't you put out some of the blame for them?
To: jeanne...
I'd rather have all that you've mentioned above than to suffer another 4 years like the last 8 that we're having. What's wrong with being acknowledged and congratulated by the world? Isn't that good foreign policy? I'd vote for John McCain only IF the vice presidential candidate is somebody else other than 'ShowGirl' Sarah Palin and I certainly do not want her to become our president should anything happened to grandpa McCain.
So you follow politics? You must know so much about Palin then, even more so than any political contributor/strategist out there I assume. You’ve ALSO followed politics to an extent where you thought that the current situation will and can be resolved by a woman (as VP, possibly Commander in Chief if the old man kick the bucket) that came out of no where which we have no clue about? Or maybe you do I should say.
This country is in dire strait and we need someone that can change things around. It is time for another ‘Clinton’ term(s), whether it’d be Senator Clinton herself or in this case; Barack Obama and it is time for the Democrats.
Let’s see how things turn out, we have four years to debate; if by all means should the outcome turns out be good - which I know it will, then we can further decide and judge who can and will serve another term, until then, let’s not be bigoted and judgmental.
Jeanne, you said, "And why do you think the Russians are setting up missles along the Poland border?" implying that this happened because Obama was elected President. Russia is setting up missiles in response to US missile defense plans. How in god's name does that have anything to do with Obama, who have had no say in US missile defense plans. Just one more instance in blaming all the current domestic and foreign crisis on Obama, who hasn't taken office yet.
Silou
To Jeanne,
It would be less discomfiting to read your screed about people with no brains if your grammar and spelling rose above about the 5th grade.
And as for AJ's particularly offensive and inane contribution: I was under the impression that that the blog was not accepting those kind of comments.
Yours in Christ,
Thomas
I feel and admire your compassion, God be praised. I did not vote for Obama probably for the same reasons as you, but he is now the next President.
My prayer is that we the Christian Community will be united in supporting our newly elected leader. We are commanded to pray for our leaders. President-Elect Obama, his family and his administration will need all the prayer he/they can get.1
Those of us who did not vote for Senator Obama, lets hope the best for our new President-Elect. The Bible tells us, that God ordains government, so let us accept and embrace the will of God.2
The revival that our Country needs will only come about when we as believers will humble ourselves, pray, seek God's face and turn from our wicked ways.3
God bless you and God bless America!
(1) 1 Tim 2:1-4 I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
(2) Rom 13:1 Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.
(3) 2 Chron 7:14 If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
Keep up the good work!
Grace & Peace,
DeAntwan
thomas:
as noted in the beginning of the post, "once again:"
this is a re-post with some things added. thought it was worth repeating...
Some people need the voice of reason to be spelled out to them.
We are in a crisis today.
Tomorrow (Jan. 09) when BO takes office, we will spiral into the Obama recession. Because of promises.
1. Expand medicaid to more people
2. Require coverage for all children
3. Create a national exchange so the uninsured can purchase insurance from a private insurer or a public government program.
4. Subsidies to lower-income individuals and small business to help them purchase insurance
According to the consulting firm of Price Waterhouse Coopers, this part of BO's plan would cost the Federal government 75 Billion dollars in the 1st year!
This is why recession is attached to BO's name.
Where is this money going to come from since 10 million people have lost their jobs, and 47 million new people will be lining up at the doctor's office to be seen by a doctor for the common cold at the rate of $132.00 a visit.
This my friends is where the hard working patriot is supposed to Sacrifice. I say, "Just wait a cotton pickin' minute!"
@third rock from the sun
I hope you are kidding or are just totally misinformed because we are in a recession now, and $75B doesn't count for anything in the $2 TRILLION the government is spending now to get us out of this economy.
I think you just feel like you need someone to blame, but i think your anger is misdirected.
It shows how much you know and how much you are just regurgitating from other right wing critics, because January 9 is not when Obama becomes the President. Try January 20. Like it has always been.
Dean...you write like a liberal socialist democrat.
Always quick to assume. You thought I meant Jan. 9th? Did it ever cross your closed mind that I was referring to the year 09? No, because, as always, you like to concentrate on trivial things to get the focus off real issues.
Moving on... Didn't BO lament on how 'out of touch' McCain was and now he wants to get 'intouch' with McCain? They are meeting in Chicago. BO needs McCain's wisdom. But you never heard BO admit that in his campaign speeches, now did you?
As far as the 2 trillion? I remember the speech Pelousi gave to spur the bail-out.
...referring to dean's comment on how little BO's 75 billion is compared to 2 trillion.
The 75 billion health care promise I was referring to is a drop in the bucket compared to all the other 'Mt. Kilimanjaro sized' promises BO made.
My advice to the people who voted for BO is to quit biting your fingernails waiting for him to screw up. It is not a matter of if, it is a matter of when. What's that adage?..."Be careful of what you wish for" Change. Change. Change. In my world, change can be bad as well as good.
My best wishes are for BO, but he is only as good as his advisers, because he gave us nothing but flowery words belted out in rhythmic fashion to base anything on. He used a podium to lean on for strength. He had no resume of showing he could take the lead on any decisive issue. He was for all attempts and purposes, a forefront guy with behind the scenes duties. Past performance is a good indicator of future performance. So I pray for wisdom for those whispering in his ear, because now he will have to vote yay or nay instead of just 'present' with that stroke of that pen.
well said, third rock.
so people don't think jeanne is crazy, I finally decided a.j. had had enough exposure, so I deleted his ridiculous comment. (so there were 2 before I erased it)
I will say again, to all those whining that I am not in favor of unity at all. I am all for unity....but when you guys ask for unity, you mean something very different. I will NEVER, NOT EVER, subscribe to the policies of Barack Obama. As for getting along, I'm all for that. I was simply pointing out what hypocrites you all are for demanding unity, when you clearly have no idea what it is to be "unified" yourselves.
No, Tami, we don't mean something very different. No one is asking you to subscribe to the policies of Barack Obama. Why do you think that democrats want to convert you, because we don't? You, your husband and your daughter can vote for the republican party and have conservative values until the day you all die, and we couldn't care less. The democrats who come here want to express their point of view and debate, but it's extremely grandiose of you to think that we're out to change all republicans (and especially you) into liberal democrats. I don't even expect to change extreme right-wing republicans, like yourself, into moderate republicans. It's never going to happen, and none of us "libs" are dumb enough to think that it ever could. We're not out to "get you." We know we cant change you just like we know you couldn't change us. To work together means to compromise, not to change one's ideology. Not everything is black & white, us vs. them, good vs. evil. That seems to be the rigid way in which most republicans view the world.
Define unity. Because I think that we can agree that it is something we who face this global economic implosion need right now.
