Feminist Endorses Sarah Palin

The National Organization for Women's Los Angeles chapter president, Shelly Mandell, introduced Sarah Palin this past weekend at an event in California.

"America, this is what a feminist looks like," stated Mandell. She was not speaking on behalf of NOW, but "as an individual, as a woman's rights activist for 30 years who has worked for all those years to see this day".

Shelly Mandell let it be known that she does not agree with Sarah on many of the issues, that she is a lifelong Democrat, but that she "is proud to support Sarah Palin, a woman who will fight for women's rights...a woman who will, Lord knows, shake things up". "I know Sarah Palin cares about women's rights, she cares about equality, she cares about equal pay, and as Vice President she will fight for it. She cares about our children and she cares about women's lives. She's an athlete and she knows what Title Nine did for girls like her."

I find this interesting! Randi, the CNN reporter who interviewed me yesterday, asked me why I thought Democrat women were beginning to get on board with McCain/Palin. I explained that, in my opinion, it has less to do with the issues and more to do with Sarah's authenticity, her toughness, her willingness to do what's right no matter what. Democrats or not, many people still respect that.

While I disagree with nearly everything Shelly Mandell believes in, I admire her for her guts! I am certain she will be tarred and feathered for her support of Sarah Palin, and that she was willing to take that risk says a lot about her. It will be interesting to see how things play out on this one.

Women and the GOP

On September 16, 2008, Dr. Laura Schlessinger wrote a post on her blog entitled "Do Women Fare Better With The GOP?".  I thought it was an excellent observation!

"Barack Obama and Joseph Biden are both fishing for the women’s vote - especially disenchanted Hillary Clinton feminists. Biden has insisted that Republicans, including Sarah Palin, represent a step backwards for women.

But when you look at the labor market data from the Census Bureau (as Professor Casey Mulligan of the University of Chicago has in a new study), to figure out “the amount and reasons for women’s progress in the labor market since the 1960s” something very interesting is revealed. (Wall Street Journal 9/12/08).

In 1988, the last full year of Republican Ronald Reagan’s administration, wage growth for women working full-time throughout the year improved by 8.3% from the end of the Democratic administration of Jimmy Carter. “Johnson, Carter, and Clinton were all Democrats, yet none of them witnessed much labor-market progress for women during their administrations: eight years of Reagan, four years of George H.W. Bush, and six years of George W. Bush.” The Nixon-Ford administrations were the only Republican administrations that didn’t make it to this list of forward momentum for women.

In the Quarterly Journal of Economics, August, 2008, Professor Mulligan and Yona Rubenstein (from Brown University) calculated the statistics that showed women’s annual wage growth relative to men’s:

Under Republican administrations, women’s annual wage growth relative to men was .0.87% under George W. Bush, 1.4% under George H.W. Bush, and 1.6% under Ronald Reagan. Under Democratic administrations, women fared less well. Their annual wage growth relative to men was 0.21% under Bill Clinton, 0.04% under Jimmy Carter, and minus 1% under Lyndon Johnson.

I like that color lipstick, especially if the kids are grown or Daddy is home with the kidlets."

Why Feminists HATE Sarah Palin

As you know, radical left wing feminists are foaming at the mouth over the nomination of Gov. Sarah Palin as the Republican Vice Presidential candidate.  Why, you ask? I mean, it would seem that because of what they represent, they would be thrilled about her nomination. After all, we need a woman in the White House at any cost, right?  Not so fast.  The nomination of Sarah Palin as McCain’s running mate has exposed the radical left wing liberal feminists in America for what they really are: bitter, hateful women who want nothing more than to destroy Sarah Palin because she is a Christian, and she believes in saving the unborn.

Let’s take a look at what feminists SAY they believe. They SAY that being a woman is more than just being a mom at home with the kids. The SAY that they believe that a woman is every bit as qualified as a man to hold a political office. They believe that premarital sex is completely okay and that we should not try to stop young people from having sex, but instead we should deal with it by teaching sex education in schools. They believe that when the young woman gets pregnant, we should not stand in her way, at any age, of killing her unborn baby-no matter what stage in the pregnancy she decides to do so.

Now, I don’t know about you, but what I am hearing in the media seems to be at least partly in contrast to what they SAY they believe! They have repeatedly trashed Sarah for wanting to become VP while having 5 children, one who is a special needs child. They suggest she is being a horrible mother by considering such a position, suggesting she is incapable of being both a mother and a VP. They have suggested that because her daughter had premarital sex and got pregnant, Sarah and Todd are bad parents. Most egregious, however, are the criticisms of Sarah for not choosing to abort her son Trig.

I never cease to be amazed. Sarah Palin is a beautiful, intelligent, articulate woman who puts every prominent feminist to shame, and it’s why they hate her so much. She IS everything they are not. Her success exposes them for who they are. “I know  what the truth is, and I know what my convictions are, so I can take it,” said Sarah in an interview this evening with Sean Hannity,“They motivate me!”

Republican conservative women have been called everything from lazy housewives to white trash, but I think Tom Delay said it best in an article written by Alexander Burns in Politico on September 3rd: “The media has done more for John McCain in the last two days than he’s done for himself in the last year and a half,” DeLay said. “Trashing her is waking up the sleeping giant, and the sleeping giant is Republican women.”

Patriotism and Femininity

I have a question? What is it about hearing a patriotic song that infuriates liberals so much? There are websites that have articles ripping into me for having the songs "God Bless The USA" and "I Pledge My Allegiance" posted on this site. Why does that irritate them so badly? A fellow Republican told me today that back during the elections of 2000 here in Broward County, there was a moment where a group of Americans, mostly Republicans,  began singing the national anthem and were booed down. Why is that? I don't understand how you can live in this country, know all that it stands for no matter your party preference, and not feel overwhelmingly proud at the awesome sound of just about ANY patriotic song! This site will continue to have that kind of music, and I might just add more for your listening pleasure! There was a time, many years ago, when a person would get their teeth knocked out for booing the national anthem. Men have fought and died for our flag and what it represents! A patriot is defined in Webster's 2nd Edition Unabridged Dictionary as "one who loves his country and zealously supports its authority and interests". It can hardly be said that you are conducting yourself in a manner befitting a patriot when you disrespect our national anthem, which shows a clear lack of respect, much less love, for one's country or support for its interests. Your conduct, by definition, excludes you from the category of "patriot" or "patriotic".

Regarding femininity, this comment came from M. Carmichael today, and I think she is onto something:

"One reason I think that Sarah Palin has brought so much to the Republican ticket is that she is a feminine woman. She carries herself as a lady in her posture, dress and facial expressions. This works because she is confident in who she is and what her abilities are. The power that she holds does not come from being masculine or from competing against the men, but from her confidence in herself and her femininity. Even her fashion sense has been reported as being feminine and even something to mimic. There are some women who feel like they have to be like a man to be successful; therefore, they lose their femininity. God created man and woman in His image, but gave them each different roles. I believe that Sarah is a good example of a woman fulfilling her role as a feminine woman."

Conservatism and Women's Rights/Feminism

by John

The nomination of Sarah Palin as the Republican vice presidential candidate provides an opportunity to highlight the role that Christian principals have played in the conceptualization of women’s rights.

From the perspective of world history, women have been viewed with a quiet disdain or, in the worst cases, as possessions to be bought, sold, or discarded. The historical record is replete with examples of women being relegated to subservience and abuse. Sadly, women still suffer under oppressive societies to this day. However, in this country, informed by Christian principals, women enjoy a status equal to their male counterparts. Though this nation may have been slow in acknowledging the true status of women, the seeds for this enlightenment were always there.

Despite what pundits may say, this country is still rooted in Christian tradition. Perhaps, then, we should begin at the beginning. The book of Genesis is about beginnings. The first verse begins with the only rational epistemological presupposition possible, “In the beginning God.” More to our point, Genesis describes God’s view, in the Christian tradition, of woman. God made woman from man and God made woman in his image just as man was made in God’s image. (Genesis 1:26, 27) This single statement carries profound implications. In an age where men ruled in absolute, the statement that women were created, just as men, in God’s own image was positively revolutionary. Here we find the basis for the concept of individual rights. Individual rights, not granted by the state, but individual because of mans’, and womans’, inherent value as bearing the image of God. This concept forms the theoretical basis for all of our founding documents. It is the essence of our national way of life. Without individual rights, the Bill of Rights cannot exist. The rights we commonly know, freedom of speech, press, etc., would not exist apart from the concept set forth in the book of Genesis. No other religious tradition can claim it, the enlightenment thinkers didn’t invent it, nor did the ancient Greek democracies understand this essential truth.

The political struggle we see unfolding is not about race or sex but about the eons old struggle between humanism and Christian principal. The conservative movement finds its guiding tenets in Judeo-Christian principals, where God is understood as the first principal. The left operates from a worldview that is humanistic, where man has formed a golden image in his own likeness. Humanism has produced all of history’s twisted philosophical horrors. Humanism produced the barbarism of the French Revolution; biblical principals produced the free republic of the American Revolution.

While the Democratic party flounders in the cesspool of humanisms’ philosophical detritus, the Republican party clings to some of the Divine principals that made America possible and which enable a woman to ascend to the high office of Vice President. The left would attempt to highjack Christian principal to suit their agenda, while the principals of the right form the basis for a woman’s inherent right to stand in equal position to her male counterparts.
